Lovely boat

I am a 12 year old paddler, quite tall, about 5ft 2. I paddle on slalom courses, Welsh whitewater and basic flat water. This boat is great for everything. It doesn't catch much on the white water. It is easy to paddle on flat and white . It's a great surf boat, you can get some great speed and tricks. I don't kno about cartwheeling or any stunts apart from squirting, but it is easy to squirt. A great boat, kept me above the water down three grade 3 rapids on the tywevrn in wales. Great boat for beginners or intermediates!

Bomb proof boat

About myself I was told by an assessor to move up to a bigger boat if I was to do more river leading. This comment was made in reference to the fact that I couldn’t carry people on the back of my old one a Bliss Stick RAD185!!! I've run a few grade 3's and 4's including Hebden Water , River Kent and Tees Barrage both in a river running and teaching capacity. Review I’ve been paddling for ten years and this boat is just totally effortless. The size and comfort is fantastic. The high rocker allows for very fast turns and its blunt nose and volume just allow you to bounce effortlessly down the river. The outfitting is of an excellent standard. Really impressed with the grabrails and carrying loops. An excellent river runner and good for rescues. Conclusion Superb. Can't help but notice how safe you feel in it.

Briefly interesting but dated quickly

Kayaking pundit. I paddled one once at Hurley. Caught the imagination on its release but was superceded by other manufactuerers within a couple of months. If you want an allround WW boat on a budget, second hand versions are still available. It would have to be very cheap to be a wise purchase though.

Great boat!

I'm a 5 year paddler that has finally found a boat I can fit into very comfortably. This boat handles class 3 water very well. stable and comfortable. catches fast water eddies very well, surfs great, and carves great. Excellent boat for the large paddler that wants the leg room of a Cadilac, the performance of sports car and the durability of an SUV. I'm very pleased with this kayacht.

Great boat

I am an intermediate paddler living in central BC. I've owned this boat for a few months now, and have tried it on a number of local rivers as well some action down on Vancouver Island (up to Grade 3). I used to own a Booster, and previous to this a Bliss. Basically this is the first boat where I feel like I'm really in control of it. A natural feel on the water, easy and forgiving, and capable of many modern playboat moves. It's the best surf boat I've ever been in -- it never perls and carves nicely. Not super fast but not slow either. I don't know how to cartwheel yet, but I've seen my friend throw ends like it's going out of style (and he couldn't link as many in his super ez). It's also very easy to roll. I would strongly recommend it for any novice-intermediate looking to step up their playboating, but still have a nice craft for river-running. Great kayak.

honest

The description pyranha gives of this boat is pretty much right on to its actual performance, its a good down river boat, and pulls out of big holes fairly well. Its also a very able surfer, and with a wide enough wave you can surf it in class 1 rapids. I'm just getting into whitewater kayaking and I was pleased with the confidence it gave me while still being an extremely fun boat. The eddy squirts on the exit are'nt quite as bad as you might imagine with such a sharp back edge, but you still have to fight through the backsides of larger rapids, and a funny side current can spin you in a moment if you don't have your paddle in the water. The boat works for me and is comfortable as well. note: I've just had it on some threes with high river levels so I don't know how it would perform in a BIG class four or five holes, although it does have as much displacement as some creek boats. Don't ask me about rolling, I would'nt have much to compare it to.

old school genius

I have been paddling this boat now for about 3/4 years and although I am way over weight for this boat (185 kg), have run nearly every river in ireland in it in all levels as i can't afford a creek boat, this being due to its unbelieveable stability. For playboating I have managed to attempt to keep up with the good guys in this old skool heavy plastic playboat and had a savage time doing it. This is one of the all time classics and it will be a sad day the day I part with it.

Great large paddler boat

Hi, I am a large paddler, 6'3'' 240pds, was paddling a booster 60 before, and tried several playboats before I found the Nitro. I have to admit that even with everything ripped off, I am still pretty tight and not very comfortable, but the fun capacities of the boat increased my level of paddling by 100%. I discovered the fun of catching air, air blunts, donkey flips and cartwheel are now easy stuff... Finnaly a boat that allows larger paddler to be at the same level of others... (alomost)

Hercules on Big Water

I had been on team Prijon in the US from 99-2003 and loved the Embudo for creek boating. I work for Paddler Magazine and Kayak magazine in Colorado. Since I have just taken whatever boats we need reviewing but I am the ad rep for prijon and know the guys there super well. This is a much less biased opinion that what I would have written 3 years ago. After 4 months of snowboarding and lounging on the couch, the crew at Paddler had a chance to take a trip to Oregon/Washington to test some new boats. Last week we went up there and everything was too flooded. We decided to meet up with young ripper Eric Boomer from Idaho and take this new boat down the Wind River. Usually class 4+ the river had about 2X the normal CFS usually paddled. 1,200 -1,500 the guide book claimed was its class V range. It was more like 3,000 cfs. Kudos to Prijon for finally putting a sweet foot system in a boat that fits me very easily (even at 6feet 4 inches in height). The new thigh braces are a little more cushioned in...

The spud that is faster than the ZG!

I'm a Team WS paddler who has paddled most of the top playboat designs out there over the years on a huge variety of playspots. I've had the Project 52 on all types of playspots, from Skookumchuck to shallow holes. First off, the boat fits perfectly as soon as you hop in it. Extremely comfy with the new outfitting. When I hop in other boats with different outfitting, it just doesn't feel as "cushy." Wave surfing is where this kayak really excels. It is faster than both ZG's, as well as being slightly looser. The Project 52 has the width of the ZG 54 so edging both boats is equally easy. It is very balanced in holes, so cartwheeling is very predictable. It is not as stable on end as the ZG series due to its short length and compressed volume, however this causes the Project to loop much bigger and easier than the ZG. Its length is great for shallow rivers as well. The picture Playak has here is actually the Project 62, which I have not paddled. On big waves the Project 52 is faster than the...

SCUD

I was very excited to try this boat out, so much so I postponed my travels just to get my hands on one to take to the west coast of the south island in New Zealand. It’s a sweet smooth transition from playboat to creeker. Mostly all the rivers I paddled the Scud on were steep low volume runs like the Upper Perth and the Upper Hokitika to name a few. The Scud is a boofing machine, it's agile and quick to turn which was key in maneuvering through boulder gardens. It resurfaced quick and stable off of waterfalls, it punched holes better than I thought it would, when stuck in a hole its shortness offered a controllability not really found in longer creekers. This thing is nostalgic of the old Topolino. It playboats, it loops huge and rolls easily. It is a bit slow in higher volume water “3500cfs or 100cumecs” but seemed to hold a good line. I liked the outfitting with the adjustable thigh braces and the new seat with a large compartment...

Vision 56

I've had this boat for 4 months and absolutly love it. Found it to be one of the most comfy play boats ive ever sat in. Liquid Logic have made a fantastic boat. As an aspiring playboater I know jack all about the moves it can do but have seen it in the hands of a mate and looked good. Not a great surfing boat but on a river wave this boat comes into its own. Only concern with it is how good the plastic is- whether a poor plastic has been used to keep weight down. The seat mechanism is superb, really easy to adjust, just taking seconds literally. The boat is a gift to paddle, feeling a lot longer than it actually is, handy when paddling between playspots. Pitty about the stupid foot cushion, solid foot blocks would be a lot less hassle and they wouldn't burst. I feel the main factors that take away from a brilliant boat is the dopey foot system and maybe slighlty soft plastic. Otherwise the outfitting is first class with the number of parts kept to an absolute mininum. ...

Fun and easy to paddle

About myself Been paddling for about 3 years, not much of a serious playboater but I'm starting to get more into that About the test environment Penrith was built for the Olympic and it was the site for the Freeestyle Worlds and PreWorlds 04/05. Grade 3. lots of varied play. Review I really liked the scooter, found it easy to control in a surf, quick edge to edge switches. Feels smaller than the volume suggests, it's slicey enough that cartwheels should be no prob (once i learn how to do them). Narrowness great for surf control but a little edgier so will take a little bit of getting used to but overall very forgiving boat to paddle. Outfitting simple and comfy (seat and thighs) didn't like backband at all, didn't ratchet tight enough and rubbed like sandpaper. So I've got my old RAD one in there for now. Got foot foam in instead of their bean bag thingy too because it moved around way too much. Conclusion Very...

The most comfortable playboat around for very tall paddlers

I've been paddling for 2 years, only being able to fit in large creek boats. Most of my height is in my legs which has stopped me getting into anything smaller than a Liquid Logic "Huck". It was at a freestyle surf carnival that I first saw the Large Flirt, it looked huge and i fitted into it perfectly, i used it in the comp to see what it was like and was amazed. After using it for about 40mins i could pull off flatspins, blunts, cartwheels and even a loop! I bought it that afternoon. The first time I used the Flirt was at the beach, it was very loose but still fast easy to carve with. I haven't used it on the river yet, but all that extra volume will help alot in running bigger grade rapids. The longest i've spent in it is about 3 hours and didn't feel cramped at all. For any really tall paddlers out there who are looking for a comfortable playboat check out the Large Flirt. If you can demo it, you won't be dissapointed!

Fantastic Boat, proper good fun!

I have been paddling the NRG since April 2005. It took me a while to get used the boat, but it was excellent once mastered. I am very confident on WW and enjoy new challenges, and the boat hasn't ever let me down. The main places where i have paddled it, are the Nene WW Centre, Northampton and the Tryweryn, North Wales. On the Nene i mainly do playboating, and the tryweryn is a good river for river running! The boat is excellent for surfing, it will sit in most waves and it's very easy to spin around and do the normal tricks! In a hole it will cartwheel with minimum effort, and is good for at least 6-7 ends, (but that also depends on moi). It's dying to be looped properly, as it's designed mainly for aerial moves, sometimes i can get the odd one, but once i can loop properly i am sure that it will be great. For river running i have no problems with it, it does kick up, giving you a great sky view when going over drops but...
