What's it like

The waves on the Atlantic shore in Belmar can vary quite a bit. If there's a hurricane hitting the east coast somewhere, you can almost be assured of great waves. In general, the best time to hit this area is fall.

Water temperature is in the high 60's.

How to get there

Coming from the east, take highway 195 across New Jersey. It will dump you right at Belmar. Take the left branch of the highway (signs say Belmar) and then at the first traffic light (16th Avenue) turn right. After 10 blocks you're at the shore. See also the following MapQuest map:
