Slow motion, a flushy wave and loops

Falls 2009

This clip is more of an aesthetic experiment than an actual full on action clip. It was shot using the slow motion mode of the sony Z7 and a fully open iris for short depth of field.
The Z7 can basically record at 120 frames per second for short duration (3, 6 or 9 secs). This function works especially well on moving waters, as it captures movements that are barely noticeable at normal speeds. Only drawback is that picture resolution is not as good as in normal shooting mode, but a little tweaking on the picture makes it still very acceptable.

Took about two hours to shoot on a sunny evening at my local course, Saint Pierre de Boeuf, and more time to edit as i was also experimenting different color grading tools and picture looks.

Oh, and by the way, hopefully we'll make changes to that wave to make it work properly next season!

Thanks to Val Grollemund for modeling and helping out with the filming too. He was rewarded with a good barbecue.

Shot on Sony Z7 @ 120 FPSsec
Edited and graded on Edius 5
Location: Saint Pierre de Boeuf, France
Paddlers and footage: Val Grollemund, David Arnaud
Editing: David Arnaud
Music: Santa Esmeralda - Don't let me be misunderstood
