Brett and Garth got what they paid for when their raft flipped at the notorious Jaws wave on the Vaal River. Everyone swam - while Graeme in the croc first took the pictures ("Anything for the picture") and then went after the upturned raft. With a little help from Brett in the water, the raft was righted and everyone reached the bank, full of war stories. The raft - Winnie - was skippered by Eddison with Shadrach onboard too. They had a much-needed swim to prepare them for the Tugela expedition in a fortnight's time. The rest of the trip went compariatively uneventfully, if you don't count the massive waves at Gatsien and Knucklecrusher. Eddison redeemed himself as raftmaster and we floated into Kommandnek in great spirits. Running at around 700 cumecs after rains and dam releases, the Vaal looks set to continue at high water for much of the summer. Yeeha! Come dance with the river! Don't miss the big water, call me to book now. Trips every day in the holidays. - Graeme (temp cell no: 071 553 4993) [email protected]
