SUP yoga has been a popular topic on the Go Paddling channels, so we thought, now the weather is picking up, we’d put together a few short videos to help you give it a try.
We're going to run through 3 basic flows that you can do on your stand up paddleboard. These flows can be performed on your board or on land before you step on your board. They’re great for general mobility and flexibility, as stand alone exercises, or as a way to warm up or warm down before a session on the water.
You’ve got a choice of how you do these, you can either do each one a couple of times, or you can focus on one flow and do it 5-10 times as a warm up on it’s own. One key thing to remember is to sync the movements with your breath. Don’t rush them, go slowly and peacefully and focus on your movements and breathing as you go.
For each flow we are going to show you and explain to you what we are doing on land first, and then do an on the water demo too. We’re going to start with a basic standing sun salutation, and work through a couple of other flows using popular poses which you should find enjoyable on the water.
If you’d like more information on how to get into SUP yoga or info on things like what you should wear, take a look at our website http://www.gopaddling.info
And if you don’t want to do particular flows like this, but would like to do one off poses within your paddle, check out the SUP yoga poses video, again on our website.
These flows include:
1. Standing sun salutation - standing, backbend, full fold, half fold, full fold and rise.
2. Child pose, cat pose, hanging cobra, down dog, and back to child pose (not moving your hand or feet position from beginning).
3. Down dog, plank, knees chin chest or chaturanga, cobra, and back to downdog (not moving your hand or feet position from beginning).
