The Ninth District Coast Guard District is launching "Paddles Up Great Lakes," an educational outreach campaign aimed at raising safe boating awareness among the region's paddlesports community. The $5.5 million Marshbank Park project in West Bloomfield Township will include canoe and kayak access to Cass Lake, the largest lake in Oakland County, Michigan. Almost 2,000 feet of new direct park access to Cass Lake will be opened up with the project.

The Macomb County Sheriff Marine Division will patrol via yellow kayaks upon the Clinton River - Blue Water Trail from the launch at Avon & Livernois to Lake St. Clair. Plans are in place from Mark Hackel's office assigning five deputies to the Blue Water Trail attempting to insure boater safety. The press conference held on Thursday along the riverbanks of the Clinton River was covered by the Macomb Daily newspaper.
