Hi, I cut mine down and used a piece of 6 inch long thin wall stainless tubing on the outside of the shaft to put the two pieces back together. Super solid now and the thin wall stainless is very light.

Were this an instructional video (with a contents menu!), it might make sense, but this is just too time-consuming, especially since each clip is so short. I applaud your effort, though... Contacted the company, but they refuse to respond. Of course, they'd just like me to buy a new paddle, I'm sure....
