Zach's kayak lessons begin in Valleyfield Quebec. July 2005
ALex asked me for some info on how to build a ramp. - Take a look at the illustration and you should get a good idea of the basic frame required. - Once you have built and supported the frame, cover it any way you want. I am on a budget so I collected long and short pallets and nailed them to the frame. - The kicker is shaped by placing short lenths of 4x4 one after the other along the curvature of the kicker. - The start pad is also pallets supprted by the frame. - Then the whole think is covered by 2 sheets of plastic privcy trellus cut in 2 foot widths. - Finally using whatever you can find (I had leftover 4x4) make a railing to prevent people from shooting off the sides. that would hurt like hell. - The curve of the kicker that I built is well suited for the length and angle of my ramp. If you have a steeper slope you can make the kicker longer and with a deeper curve (will throw you farther and higher). - Use screws to put it together. They wont back out and rip your boat. - Get some old carpet for the start pad. It is more gentle on your boat - -
