Hey,
I'm currently planning on a trip to the White Nile but because I have never been to this part of the world I have some questions.

1. First of all is it still worth going to the White Nile? I mean how has the river been affected by the dam?
2. Considering Gear what would be best for the Nile? I have never been to a warm water paddling destination so I don't know if i should bring a shortsleved DryDeck or just some Lycra Sunprotection and a sprayskirt?
3. Any advice where to stay on the Day 1 Section (Eden Rock/NRE)?
4. Any Do's and Dont's for Uganda?

Any answer would be appreciated!
cheers
chris

Heya,
1. I haven't been since the dam, but it still probably worth going. Play is unbelievable, and there are plenty of rapid even without the TotalGanga, SurfCity and Silverback (mmm... getting goosebumps from the memories :) ).
2. You'll be fine with lycra for most days. A short-sleeve top is comfortable for rainy days, but not a must (can get a bit chilly, but you'll survive without).
3. I always stayed at NRE, don't know if Eden is handy for boda-boda (local motorbike shuttle).
4. Just think with you head, try not to get malaria (trust me, it sucks) or AIDS.

Enjoy,
Dima

Hi Chris
The Nile is still going strong. We have lost 8kms of river but still have over 70kms of whitewater including, Itanda, Kalagala, Hair of the Dog and of course Nile special..... plus loads more
There were terrorist attacks in Kampala (2 hr away from the river) last year at the football World cup final. This seems to be an isolated event. Ive lived here for over 10 years and feel safer here than i do in the UK. Security is good and we have welcomed over 400 kayakers from overseas in the last twelve months. Its a great river, warm water all year round and constant big volume water and playwaves. If you have any more questions just send me a mail on [mail address protected from spambots with javascript]
All the best and hopefully see you out here sometime soon

Jamie
