The new Salto Evolution has increased volume in the stern area making it easier to correct and control when it gets tough.
If you're happy, you're successful.

Does anyone know what the main differences are between the new Salto and the old?
They mention changes to the top deck and cockpit size is different.
Has the bottom shape stayed the same? Or did they make improvements there too?

Here's the playak comparison to the 2005 model and the original model. Can you specify which model you want to compare it to? I would presume the 2005, but am not sure.

thanks for the reply
I'm mean what are the differences between the evolution model and the 2005 model
I have already compaired the two boats on this site.

there i saw
* that they mention changes to the top deck
* and cockpit size is different.
* also the volume is bigger.
* length is bigger

so my question is:
did they changed things like rocker, hull shape ,rails,...

The rails/chines look slightly softer on the new model, but that's the only difference that I can see other than what you have mentioned.

Hi there,

I took to screen shots comparing the old with the new one....

So here are the changes:
It looks aloottt cooler, and design is quiet functional! The X stiffens out the deck, and there ar no lines or edges on the deck that catch water...., so we have a fairly lght and stiff hull.

1. The entire boat is slightly bigger ->more volume. more time on the surface
2. The bow of the boat is not as round (the hull) so the Salto evo will again have more time on the surface punching a whole. The baot is not going as deep, therefore the water won't slow you down as much.
3. The entire bow is roughly 5cm wider than the old model, which does two things: it doesn't sink in as much (more surface time), and in adition there is less surfce area (looking from the side) inside the water. The stern is only 2cm wider. This makes the Salto aloooottt easier to turn, especially ones you happen to be off your intended line...
4. we got rid of the steep sidewalls, this in itself makes the boat a lot more foregiving... and one doesn't get pushed around as much....
5. The deck in the back is slightly higher, water has a lesser tendency to get onto the deck
...hmm waht else let me think...
6. the rocker line: as with the old boat: we kept a continious rocker line, (makes the boat faster) but added al ittle bit of rocker in the front (2cm), and roughly 3cm in the back
-> more rocker and wider makes the salto evo alooottt easier to turn, and easier to boof!
to tell you the truth... we were a bit concernd that this would slow down the boat...., but it didn't!

7. The roof shaped deck stiffens out the boat and keeps the water away.

8. The cockpit stayed the same, it is the standard moulded in cockpit rim, that stifens out the hull big time.

Last but not least: Since I designed the boat..., Iam totally biased and in love with it!... Honestly! ;)

Just tried to upload some screenshots, but the limits sizewise are ridiculous (sizewise) after a few attemps the upload dialog dissapered all together...

I will probably blog it on the eskimo blog...

Well, if this boat is a son of you... you are for certain in love with it ;)

I'd like to try it.
But for sure I like the design.

Congratulation.

:S What would be the max. paddled waight forEvolution? most eskimo boats are designed for"skinny"paddlers,I heard that the Cierro 2006 is not designed for bigger water like cl.5-why not? This is the only Eskimo for bigger paddlers, what would be the estimated street price of the evolution in US dollars? Just paddled my New Salto Evolution down the Green Narrows yesterday. What an amazing boat!!! Boofs well and resurfaces when i neglect to boof. Held up well to me abusing it thouroughly with attempting to hit every rock on the way down. (right side up). This new model is considerably better than previous models. The volume addition and where its at is Huge. I would highly reccomend this boat to other paddlers. I'm not selling Eskimo kayaks anymore but know that you can get them through Appomattox kayak shop and a few other places in the East. New Distributer (Noram LLC.) is going to make a big difference in getting boats available to paddlers.

Will put up a comprehensive review after i get a few more runs in.

Here are some pics of it and some pics from the Charlotte WW center in NC.

Some people I know paddled it.

I'm just reporting others opinion, anyway I heard very good comments about plastic and hull,
they says it's quite fast.

There are some concern about the seat, some complains it's too elevated.

hi gange,

to tippy: unstable, meaning that the weigth is positioned to high, because of the elevated seat...

this what a Theasurus has for 'tppy' :
----
Main Entry: unsteady
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: shaky
Synonyms: capricious, changeable, dizzy, erratic, fickle, fluctuating, giddy, groggy, inconstant, precarious, quivery, rickety, rocky, shifting, teetering, tippy, unreliable, unsettled, unsound, unstable, vacillating, variable, wabbly, wavering, wayward, wiggly, wobbly
Antonyms: stable, steady
---

So it depends on skill level size and weight, cause a higher seat gives you more leverage...., ...but makes the boat more tippy..., but being small it actually has advantages having a higher seat.

You can always lower the seat by putting a spacer (some plastic/ hard wood etc....) inbetween the seat and the hull..., and if you have the feeling that the backband is to low, you can atach the backband directly to thescrews that old the seat....

Thanks Jan,

Thanks to playak to give the opportunity to connect common paddlers with manufacturers. :)

Actually one of the guys I saw using it was during the "Crodo kayak ride" competition (a boater cross plus a speed race on IV+) and, as far as I know, he comes from slalom competiotions.

I'll cite your post with the other guys here. :)

Ciao
