It was called the Sabre. You'll find many much better modern alternatives for your purpose, even second hand. But if your main criterium is 'cheap', maybe a Sabre would fit. Google still has quite some info on that boat:

From what I can remember the Sabre was a cross between a Dancer and a slalom boat.

Long by modern standards, but good for back dips. Fast, but tended to sub out compared to the other boats of the day.

Sounds to me ike you are looking for something like the Perception Whiplash. Used to have one and they are pretty decent, even to get some nice surfs in it too.

Don't go with the Sabre as it has a pretty low volume and will be prone to sternsquirt at high loads.. Although that is a lot of fun to watch you might not like it when simply wanting to paddle a river :roflol:
