OFFICIAL RESULTS OF THE FOURTH EDITION OF VALSESIA CANOA FILM FESTIVAL

The kayakko 2013, the Oscar for river cinematography, takes off for to island of Reunion, in the middle of the Indian Ocean

Saturday night, May 25 2013 in Campertogno (VC) ended the fourth edition of the Valsesia Canoa Film Festival, an international competition of river cinematography. Canoeists from all over Europe gathered at Theatre Campertogno to admire the adventures of canoeists and kayakers: Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, American, Argentinian, British. Films were made in CANADA, ARGENTINA, ITALY, SWITZERLAND , AUSTRIA, NORWAY, CHILE AND RUSSIA in the period 1-2012 / 3-2013.

There was a large audience participation, amplified by the articles published in the national and local press and on television aired before the festival.

The winners are the following:

ABSOLUTE WINNER awarded with the KAYAKKO 2013
Jean Guillemot (France)

CATEGORY ADVENTURE WINNER:
Nathan Barbier (France) with Chili, the film with 26.5 points
A stellar group of International canoeists (Eric Deguil, Evan Garcia, Mike Dawson, Dane Jackson, Julien Hollander, Romain Bardo) descended, over a period of two months, the rivers and more isolated streams, difficult and wonderful, in Chile and Argentina. The area chosen for the descents is Pucon. Here are some of the rivers: rio Futalefu, rio Manso, rio Turbio, rio Claro, rio Caracole, rio Gongol, rio Puesco. Starting with a descent into a river of great volume and the rapids of crazy descent in a small stream, very difficult, full of jumps. The water has mineral colors and it’s incredibly bright. Excellent choice of music combined with the images. Very well done documentary laid out with amazing images.

CATEGORY EXTREME WINNER:
Paolo Buzzi and Vanessa Ferroni (Italy), with Meltwater kayaking, with 25.5 points
A group of the strongest Italian canoeists, including Paolo Buzzi, Marco Guidi, Giorgio Codeluppi and Enrico Bruni, have descended in the early months of 2012 rivers and streams during the melting of the snows. Waterfalls and breathtaking passages alternate with difficult passages with large volumes of water in narrow gorges. Brandeberger, Offensee, Venter e Oetz in Austria. Aurino, Riva, Rienza e Fleres in Italy. Well mounted documentary and set to music. Rivers to the limit of the impracticality and a world premiere: rio Fleres.

CATEGORY TRAVEL BY CANOE OR KAYAK:
Jean Guillemot (France) with Nahanni, with 28.0 points
Jean Guillemot, along with five other friends, in thirty days goes along the entire path of the Nahanni River, one of the most interesting rivers, from the canoe and nature point of view, in North America. The Nahanni flows in a completely isolated area, inhabited by bears, wolves and elk in the Northern Territories, the Canadian state borders to the east with the state of the Yukon. The descent is done completely independently, on inflatable canoes.
Documentary that tells the unique and well-primordial river trip.

Jean Guillemot is specially arrived to the Festival on Friday, from the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean. He embarked on a journey of twenty-four hours to attend the festival. And the trip was worth it. The Festival jury consists of two canoeists: Fredrik Gilardone, Roberto Vitalesta; an experienced public relations: Anna Allodi; a film director: Andrea Papini; a photographer: Andrea Rovatti; and the Director of Eurosport TV: Stefano Benzi. They chose the film Nahanni, made by Jean. Jean was happy with the his Kayakko in the trolley, but also a bit “worried” about customs supervision. The kayakko is an iron sculpture created by Alex Corno, a contemporary artist well known in the art environment in Milan.

After Joseph Caramella (ITALY), Santiago Lo Greco (ARGENTINA) and Olaf Obsommer (GERMANY) the fourth kayakko went to Jean Guillemot (FRANCE).

Thanks a lot to everybody.

We are waiting for application next edition, kayak river film festival.
Internation river kayak film competion in Italy, at Campertogno, Val Sesia, the italian whitewater river capital.
