[i:b2ea199cf1]Hy,
At the rock of "mont st michel" in normandie, is a spring-tide wave you can run, but there are just a few waves and they are very fast (the speed of a running horse, they say).
And I have heard there is a big wave on the gyronde near Bordeaux, but i don't know enything about it.
GRTZ,

for those who dont know french (or a translating site)

The Mascaret

The Mascaret a natural phenomenon enough little knew, well that very spectacular and produces itself on an about sixty of sites in the world.

But know that in France, the better place to see and surf the Mascaret unquestionably is laid it Holy Pardon for it offers a panoramic view on 5 river km of which 3 km of mascaret.

This wave creates on the rivers of which the embouchure is wide and shrinks "in entonnoir", allow thus to concentrate the force of the tides that then can penetrate in the interior of the earths so much more far than their amplitude is big and than the slope of the rivers is weak. There is two Mascarets a day be 730 per year of which only a fifty are remarkable.

The Mascaret advances to a speed of 10 to 20 km/h (less there is bottom, more it slows down), the wave can attain 1,360 meters of height but is not constant. To the grès of the changes of the bottom, the succession of waves moves themselves on the width of the Dordogne and itself hollow, flattens itself, itself bomb, erupts, bubbles, disappears, reappears, she is in constant change.

You will be able to see the most beautiful Mascarets to the month of September: the equinox tides are strong and the water level there is generally the more bottom.

If the summer and the arriére-saison are dry particuliérement, August and October can be interesting on the superior coefficients to 100.

The Mascaret forms itself the days where meet two essential conditions:

a strong tide coefficient (superior to 100 for a beautiful Mascaret) a water level weak
