Hi, im hopefully going to Cornwall, UK this year to do some kayak surfing. I was just wondering if there was any where that people could tell me about that is a hot spot for kayakers away from the surfers and people?

Thanks alot

as a kayaker and surfer i tend to go to beaches with both,, but anywhere with a sheltered west facing beach or headland is good. My favorite spot has always been polzeath, which i still recommend but it is getting a little crowded nowdays. Always a great atmosphere though.

Look out for swell forecasts, and an Offshore wind, which in most cornwall beaches is a north easterly.

Cheers,

Simon

It could be worth picking up a wavefinder surf guide for uk and ireland but if your after a few beaches that kayak surfers use then check out

Bude Summerleaze bay/ crooklets
Widemouth Bay beech break middle with a few reefs either end. Black rocks car park same beach but cheaper parkin!

Further south as mentioned polzeath, watergate bay avoid newquay at all costs too crowded in the sumer,

Nr St Ives youve got Godrevy/ Gwithian beach breaks big beach picks up most swell in this area and if you arrive after 1730 your more likely to get the place to your selves or a couple of other people

Theres more breaks dotted around the north coast in all of these areas and theres the south coast aswell. Most of the locals are very friendly and dont mind sharing the water with other users

just show respect dont drop in on people if you do apologise and get off the wave

have fun

I agree with Everything Urge says (although Polzeath gets a little crowded for my taste these days)

Gwithian / Gedrevey are my favorite breaks in Cornwall (where I live and surf) and are really kayk friendly (there always seems to be at least one surfyak in the water there).

Perrenporth is also worth a look especially if the surf is a bit small elsewhere as it teds to be a bit bigger there than anywhere else and is a huge beach with plenty of room to keep out of everyones way and still get loads of good waves.
