It is very difficult to initiate a move in the sea because the wave is always moving but agreed if you get it right it is easier to get bigger air.

i personally find the north devon/cornwall coast excellent in the right conditions, sweet green waves and long beaches (so no surfer conflicts!!)

Also i find aerial moves a lot easier in the sea, but if you get in wrong prepair for a trashing :!: :!:

i live next to "the bitches" pembrokeshire and it is awesome ( you should do it at least once in your life ), the beauty of it is whitesands beach is next to it if you fancy a bit of classic ocean surfing, it gets packed in the summer though so go to newgale 6 miles down the road. take the advice of others on here and know your surfing etiquette and you will be fine. a good book to read is "kayak surfing" by bill mattos. everything you need to know before you go out is covered, and most the moves you can pull are explained.

i prefer ocean surfing due to the size of the waves, at least once a month we get 10 - 15 ft faces, bigger than most rivers. i feel i can get more speed and height on ocean waves, but i do have to get the moves down quicker. i like the way that when you are tired you can mellow out at the back and catch your breath before heading back into the set for another bashing.

I would have to agree with arielmaster that yes Lovely Wales has some of the best breaks in UK and the awsome tidal rapid the bitches! Surfing is about riding in the critical part of the wave the power pocket on the green wave not riding in the soup cartwheelin into the shore wiping everyone out in your not bog or clever! next time you go surfing try bottom and top turns on the green wave this will lead to bigger and better moves for some ideas try www.goatboater.com look at where the guys are surfing and how they are turning then give it a go! Definatly buy kayak surfing book helps alot as does simon hammonds new book!

At the end of the day have fun and keep on surfing

the bitches is a top surfing spot but you have to check it out first.NOTE: this is a place where you need a 100% bombproof roll because swimming could be fatal as your miles away from sure and its hard to rescue anyone once your one there !!!! take this in mind

Very true it is definalty worth going out on a smaller tide for the first time just to get a feel for the wonderfully weird currents! if theres no swell the it should be calmer and less surgey!

Often when i was camping down whitesands and there was no surf we head off to the island for a play often no one else out there.

The Bitches can be fun but is a seriuos place i was remided this at the last soul festival back in 2004 6.9 tide but with a big swell pushing through the hole was out caus the swell was wrapping around the rocks and pushing back upstream oh and thw wave was surging one minute tiny ripple next minute it would suck down make a huge hole from the rock to wher the wave is and the wave was jacking up BIG around the 10ft mark and tubing + all the other waves down stream

Be safe and have fun
