Hi all

I'm trying to assist my son and his mates in a fundraising activity. We believe we have all the logistics sorted - now looking for advise on the promotion and sponsorship. Any ideas for how to promote the team and obtain sponserships is greatly received.

Here's the blurb:

An 8 o’clock start, 10 hours and 27 miles later 3 very tired and wet teenage lads are sitting in a country pub nursing soft drinks and aching arms. Simon, James and Rannoch, collectively the Fusionists, have just completed their longest training session yet in readiness for their 135 miles challenge down the Thames in July.

The day started in Bugsworth with the weather already taking a turn for the worst with that kind of dreary rain that soaks you to the bone. The support team unceremoniously dump the lads into the canal and they are off.

10 miles in and the support team receive a phone call claiming that the lads had found an island … in a canal! Lunch is far from a glamorous affair – less silver services, more feeding time at the zoo. Following a variety of sandwiches, crisps and cakes being thrown into the animal enclosure (the support car) they are off again.

Half way, and the lads hit the market town of Macclesfield, leaving the countryside for the urban sprawl. As they pass under a bridge, known locally for suicide attempts, they pick up replacement drinks and consume them like marathon runners.

At the end they are tired and aching. James struggles to lift his arms higher than shoulder height – not good for a goalie taking part in a football tournament the next day.

The lads have been exceptionally fortunate having received great support from Pyranha, they will be using their superb Pyranha Fusions for the attempt - having taken the group name from those same kayaks.

By the end of the challenge they will have clocked up a combined total of over 700 miles and over 200 hours kayaking.

Simon, James and Rannoch are raising money for a month long expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos in 2012. During their time there the boys will be engaged in voluntary conservation.
