HOWDY fellow playakers! I am in the process of doing a statistics project for my 12th grade AP Statistics Class. I'm trying to find data regarding annual kayak sales of the major companies in the United States (Pyranha, Jackson, Dagger, Wavesport, ect) for the history of the company. I've tried some basic Google searches which all yielded no results. If anyone has any information of the annual kayak sales for the major companies, or any idea on how I can obtain the information it would be greatly appreciated. I need this data ASAP, so please post up an idea, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

You might find something on outdoorindustry.com. Another site, but I think you might have to pay or become a client somehow--I'm not sure--leisuretrends.com. They are the source of retail market data--tracking sales, etc. through the years. Might be worth a deeper look. You might also try emailing the different companies, telling them what you are doing. Some people may be willing to give you that information. Worth a try, at least. ;) Good luck!

Hey there. Finding accurate stats is difficult to find. Since none of the companies (except for Johnson Outdoors) are publically traded, there is nothing forcing them to release their finicial information.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association prints a recreational stats for each year that coves a huge amount of info.

The only problem is that it costs $775 to grab the entire book (it's huge). They publish a free abstract that has a sample of the number of boats sold. It might help get you started.

When I checked now, it was giving me some problems downloading but it has worked in the past.

Also, you might want to try the Trade Association of Paddlesports, They might be able to give you some pointers. You can reach them at www.gopaddle.org.

I emailed Pyranha and Jackson. Pyranha emailed me back and said that they couldn't release the information the the general population. I am still waiting to hear from Jackson and I plan on calling Wavesport and Dagger tomorrow. I'm going to go check out the websites that you both suggested right now. That doesn't suprise me at all. It's a funny world nobody like to give out that info becaue all the companies want to make themselves look much bigger then they all really are...

I guess for all I understand why they won't though. For all they know I could be trying to start my own company and I am scouting out the competition (not the case however). I'm still waiting to hear from Jackson, perhaps they won't let me down. The National Marine Manufacturers Association book looks l ike it may be helpful, but the preview doesn't include the section on kayaks. I'll keep searching around.

Hello Justin,

Did you eventually find the kayak sales information your were looking for more than 3 years ago? If so I would be interested in such data. I have filed a patent application for a device that makes it easy to enter/exit a kayak at a dock (www.kayaarm.ca). Just recently I filed a patent application for a portable device that makes it easier than "the paddle bridge approach" for kayak entry/exit.
Any help you might have would be greatly appreciated.
