Originally started in 1978 as "Trent Canoe", our sights were firmly set on building the absolute best line of Cedar strip canoes. Our quality expectations were set very high from the beginning, resulting in having to manufacture practically everything needed for our boats in house including seats, yokes, thwarts and related items to fully complete the canoes.

Keen interest along with working familiarity provided the fuel for the transition to composites. The rising cost, environmental considerations, along with a reduction in the availability of good quality cedar materials providing the spark that started the transition into composite materials.

As the demand for lighter weight materials increased, so to did the assortment of newer materials and processes. Reinvented as The Holy Cow Canoe Company in the mid 90's, we concentrated our efforts in building some of the very best light weight composite canoes, with the same attention to detail, and user friendly designs we had come to be known for.

With a clear understanding that even with the very best equipment, materials, and engineering, building a quality composite canoe is in part, science and part art work. Much of the final quality & long term strength comes down to the skill of the builder to put all the ingredients together correctly, in the proper locations to create a craft that is not only strong and sea worthy but also light weight and beautiful to look at.

Through a chance meeting, we were fortunate enough to come across master Canoe builder, Stu Robertson. Stu had the reputation as one of the best builders in the business with well over 33 years of experience in a variety of advanced processes & techniques, as well as a vast amount of working knowledge with many different composite materials. Gaining years of valuable experience in techniques and processes used in building a variety of composite products including boats. Stu has built everything from critical commercial products used for structural reinforcements, ocean going yacht's, to some of the most advanced multi-layer canoes & kayaks available to this day, including Olympic racing kayaks for both the Canadian and U.S. Olympic teams. It is safe to say he has built some of the best canoes and kayaks on the planet.

We believe that our standards should never be limited to just the canoes itself, but should always consider the people that paddle them. For this reason we have always insisted that all the individual items that go into a Holy Cow Canoe are designed & engineered to compliment & work with each other, rather then build a canoe that ends up as just the sum of a number of different materials. The end result is a canoe that will provide you and your family with years of enjoyment and memories & simply makes for a far superior canoe.

We are certain you will find our line up and craftsmanship exceptional, and our value second to none.
