|Rivercity SUP Marathon||By Jeroen|
Where: US, CA, Sacramento, California
This 16 mile downriver marathon takes place the day after the "Jay Race" and is the most fun race I attend in California.
This marathon is a great race for all skill levels with at least a touch of experience on the river. This course is the same distance as the USCA National event in August and will be great training. The start is dramatic off the line at Sailor Bar and finishes at Paradise Beach. The challenges of racing Stand Up Paddleboards in current and small rapids is unique.
There are 2 classes of boards in this event:
(1) USCA Stock which is for boards no longer 12’ 6”
When: Sunday June 24th, 2012 Times: registration 8:00am-8:45am, Paddler’s meeting 8:50am, Race start 9:10am
Where: Racing starts at Sailor Bar access on the lower American River (just off of Hazel Ave, see directions below) Required: Because of the small rapids Lifejackets will be required. Remember: Bring fluids - a hydration system is recommended.
Cost: $40.00 (Includes USCA Membership - $20.00 discount for current USCA members) on race day, includes lunch awards and raffle. There is a $5.00 discount for pre entries. We encourage setting shuttles in advance, but folks always come through to help with shuttles after the race as well.
Awards: Finisher medals for all SUPs that finish! Plus awards to 3rd place for each age & division. There will be just one Championship Cup for Stock Men, Stock Woman and one for Unlimited regardless of age. The West Coast Champ could be any age.
