This afternoon Mayor Jan Waaijer and Alderman Ton Roerig have given permission for building and tree felling licenses to the initiator, Tobias Walraven, of Dutch Water Dreams. They will prepare the site at Burgemeester Van Tuyll Sportpark in Zoetermeer for building immediately.
Mid December the actual building work will begin. The building work needs to be finished late summer 2006. Before permission for licenses could be granted, the representatives for the province of South Holland also had to give the necessary approval. This was also obtained last week from the Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland and the Krimpenerwaard.
The expectations are that in the late summer of 2006 Dutch Water Dreams will open the Watersports Complex for top sportsmen/sportswomen and the business community.
The sports complex contains a white water track, similar to the Olympic wildwater course in Beijing, four FlowRiders®, a large stand, from which people will be able to view the events, a shopping centre and various catering establishments.
From mid October 2006 the public will be able to participate in flowboarding, indoor surfing (best compared to snowboarding on water), body boarding, whitewater canoeing and rafting in the Netherlands the whole year round.
On the Internet site www.dutchwaterdreams.com the realization of the project can be viewed live at the building site through the webcam.
