What's it like

Ocean surfing (well, North Sea anyway). The waves in Holland would make any board surfer cry, but for kayak surfing it's quite nice really. Also for beginners. There is a nice surf club called 'Offshore' at the beach. Mind the continuously changing under-currents (ask the locals).
Best time: spring and autumn; summer is fairly boring (Warning: North Sea water is cold and Holland has lots of wind).

How to get there

On the freeway from Amsterdam, follow directions Alkmaar, Bergen, Bergen aan Zee. Go left at the final roundabout in the village. Park here and cross the dunes after 200 meters.

Well they actually don't do Bergen aan Zee anymore; they are in Hargen aan Zee, but that's close enough. Also close is Hoek van Holland, where you can book courses with Vloed Kanosport.
