Playspot: Norway, Oppland, River Otta, Skjåk (The Hole).
What's it like
The Hole is a relatively big hole with a wave on one side, there is a nice eddy on river right. The hole is deep enough for any move, and the wave is good for spins, blunts, etc. The Hole is quite forgiving, and it's rather easy to move around and set up for different moves. Ideal water level, is between 60 and 90 cumecs, but it works well from 50 to 130 cumecs. The wave is at the end of a 300 m rapid mixed with waves and holes, superb for a warm up run. The water is clear and clean, but quite cold. The normal water level in early August is around 60-80 cumecs.
How to get there
The Hole is 4 and a half hours north of Oslo and 2 and a half hours north of Lillehammer. Take the E6 from Lillehammer and turn left at Otta , follow this road (RV 15) to Skjåk (about 70 km). When the road gets closed to the river again, after the big lake, drive to the next bridge and then take the first road on your right hand side. Drive 200 meters downstream, and you are there.
