NSW, Goolang Creek, The Playhole

jumping big flat kayak

Playpot: Australia, NSW, Goolang Creek, The Playhole.

What's it like

A small pourover on Goolang Creek (power station fed), great for both beginners and experts for learning and fine tuning rodeo moves. There are very friendly eddies on both sides, just waiting to collect any discarded gear and paddlers.

The water is very warm in summer, getting down to about 10°C during the winter months.

Goolang Creek is within the grounds of Nymboida Canoe Centre. Apart from The Playhole there are various other rapids within the 3 km stretch of river within the Centre. These include Tailrace, Rocky Corner, Easy Street, Tennis Court and B-Stopper. Tennis Court and Tail Race are about grade III and the rest are all grade II.

How to get there

Coming from the nearest major town, Grafton, travel almost 35 kms SW along the Old Armidale Road (A88) towards the town of Nymboida. Just before Nymboida, you'll see is a signpost ' Nymboida Canoe Centre' on the right hand side of the road.

Turn into the Centre and register at the office. There is a $3 day charge for using the Centre, including access to the river and hot showers and BBQ's. Camping & cabins, as well as demo rodeo boats are all available here.

More info

The Centre is run by paddlers, so information is easy to come by once at the office. Call the Nymboida Canoe Centre, Armidale Road, Nymboida, NSW 2460, prior to arrival to check river levels, release times, etc. Phone/fax: +61 2 66494155.
