Limburg, River Maas, Obbicht

Playspot (for absolute beginners): Holland, Limburg, River Maas, Obbicht.

What's it like

Warning: if you are not a beginning playboater, please stop reading now. Holland is a flat country and the only real waves you'll find are on the North Sea. PLAYAK.COM was requested to add Obbicht and even though we don't consider this a real playspot, we added it so that beginning playboaters in Holland can practice the basics without having to drive a car for half a day. Hardcore rodeo freaks, please stop reading. You have been warned :-)

The following is the original text as it was submitted by Jeroen Caris:

This spot is a wave train on the river Maas. The river is about 50 meters wide at that point and it splits in two parts. When the it carries more than 400 cumecs forget playing here as it will be washed out. Between 200 and 400 cumecs, there will be a wave on the left hand side (10 meters wide) and 50cm to 100cm high. (this is BIG for the Netherlands...) There is no particular hazard here. The water is quite shallow though. No problem for accidental swimmers, after this spot the river is quiet again.

How to get there

Driving on the A2 take the exit "Stein". Then follow the signs to the village "Obbicht". Just after a crossing, a channel turn left towards Obbicht. Keep driving straight through the village. When you are exiting the village you will see a bar called " 't auwt Vaerhoes" on the left. Park your car 100 meters further on the right. You can access the river by using the gates in the field. The spot is 300 meters upstream.
