Montreal, River Lachine, Lachine wave

Playspot: Canada, Quebec, Montreal, River Lachine, Lachine wave.

What's it like

NB This beautiful wave has disappeared since 1999, but a new one appeared just below. Plus there are still plenty of other playspots in the area.

The famous green monster from the first RIOT videos.

Best time is in spring for it to be really really big. But for warm water (and still a very big wave; see picture above), summer is great. You can surf there (and wavewheel, see Corran on the picture below) in mid winter too, as long as minus 10° C doesn't bother you.

How to get there

Take Autoroute 15 south to Wellington Street Exit. Take a left on Wellington street, then a right on De L'Eglise, and a left on Verdun. Follow Verdun all the way to the end, and then take a right onto La Sale. Follow that until you see the rapids on the left, and a Lada Garage on the right. There will be a parking lot on the left opposite the garage. Walk up river about 200 meters and voila - the grandest wave in the world.
